Custom music orders for sale

I do music commissions!! $20 USD for anything without vocals, $40 USD for anything with vocals.

Genres I do:

  • Rock
  • Pop
  • Electronic and most subgenres
  • Ambient
  • Other weird custom stuff if you want it. Youtube intro music, background/lofi stuff, whatever.

There's a few genres I can't/won't do, too!

  • Extreme metal genres (death metal for example. Something like thrash is more my pace, but I'm very inexperienced with it)
  • Country music (I have 0 interest in this genre whatsoever, so I don't exactly know how to make it good)
  • Orchestral/Jazz/Anything more performative like it (I love these genres so much but I don't have access to an entire band nor do I have the experience writing the parts for them.)

There's probably a few extra things on both lists, just ask away and I can provide more info.

FAQ

How long will the commission take?

I tend to take my sweet time making songs to ensure they are the best they can possibly be. As such, unless you have a very strict deadline, it's very dependent on a lot of things. I should have an unfinished working version that's representative of the final version by at most 2 weeks, more often earlier. Don't hesitate to harass me about where the song is at! I'm a little lazy so sometimes I forget to keep up-to-date on these things :P

Can I get a refund?

By the time the song is completely finished, no. Please request a refund sometime before the song is nearing completion (usually within the first 2 weeks).

How do rights and licensing work when I order from you?

I typically prefer to "open-source" my music, meaning I license it under Creative Commons 0. This means that anyone can do quite literally anything they please with the audio, including modifying and sharing. However, seeing as you bought the music, Most people will prefer something like this: I own all the rights to the song, but you have an exclusive license to do with the song as you please. You are free to modify it or redistribute it, but others cannot do the same (they can ask me for permission, but they likely won't get it). Also, if you order from me, I might want use your song on this page as an example of what I've made. I'll ask your permission first, of course.
tl;dr if you don't wanna do CC0, then it's my song legally but you can treat it like you made it.

Are prices negotioable?

Not really-- they're already very cheap. Seeing as I'm not literally Hans Zimmer, I don't see a reason to charge you more than $20. If you ask for vocals, I tack on another $20 because vocals are a ton of extra work. If you want to pay me more than $20 for some reason, you can tip however much you'd like.

Can I commission Clarkfield?

Maybe!! Depends on Calvin. Clarkfield songs tend to be a LOT more work (because there are two of us and we're performing everything rather than just programming it into a DAW), so I'd probably ask for more than $20-40, but don't be afraid to ask!

What does your process look like?

The first thing I do is find a starting point. Depending on the genre, this usually looks like messing around with an instrument until I come up with something I like. I'll record that, and start branching off from there, adding instruments, messing with the song structure, mixing, etc. Once I get something that feels like a full song, I export that and listen to it consistently over the next day or two, without actually being at my desk working on it, and take mental note of what I want to change next time I do work on it. Then, I sit down again and improve those things, export it, rinse, and repeat. This goes on until I'm happy with what I'm listening to, at which point I move on to mastering.

Extra

  • It's worth noting that I refuse to work on songs I don't have some level of interest in. If I start on an idea and end up hating it, I will probably scrap the idea and start something new (this rarely happens because I usually end up liking what I come up with, but I have a folder of random ideas that I ended up hating that I have never touched since I made them). If I can't find something to make for you, I'll refund you.
  • Sometimes, I get busy (or lazy, or depressed) and can't work on a song for a couple of days. It happens! Life is hard. I'll do my best to let you know of these things.
  • I have limited studio capabilities, so I don't have certain things available to me (like an acoustic drumkit, or bowed string instruments).
  • If you have an entire project that you'd like me to do music for, let me know!! I would love to write a soundtrack to a video game or movie something. Payment terms and things can be discussed.
  • Thanks for supporting me!
